Ingredients
Scale
- 500 g (18 oz) flour
- 7 g (.25 oz) dry yeast; OR 21 g (0.75 oz) fresh yeast
- 8 g (0.3 oz; 1 teaspoon) sugar
- 8 g (0.3 oz; 1 teaspoon) salt
- 80 g (2.8 oz) shortening (I used vegetable shortening, but lard can be used), at room temperature
- 250 ml (8.5 fl-oz) warm water
Instructions
- Place the flour, salt, yeast, sugar, and shortening in a bowl or mixer, and gradually add the water. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly.
- Then, knead the dough for about 5 minutes, either by hand or in a mixer.
- Next, roll the dough out into a cylinder and cut it into at least 8 portions. Shape each portion into a ball, then flatten and stretch it out by hand. Place each piece of dough on a baking sheet. Prick the dough with a fork.
- Let the dough rest in a warm spot in your kitchen for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Lightly spray or brush the top of each loaf with water and bake for 20 minutes.
Notes
- For this recipe, it is not necessary to melt the shortening; you simply need to have it at room temperature before using it.
